ORAC benefits, or Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, is
the standard measurement adopted by the US Department of
Agriculture to evaluate the potency of antioxidants in food.

ORAC benefits is directly related to how well phytonutrients fight diseases such as cancer and heart disease which are aggravated, and sometimes initiated, by oxidative stress caused by free oxygen radicals.

Phytos are powerful antioxidants, but their value extends much beyond free radical protection.

Maximum health benefits are derived from consuming a variety of phytos with a full spectrum of colors and pigments.

While brightly colored foods are the ones with the highest ORAC benefit scores........

.......possibly the highest ORAC fruit found in nature is the acai berry, which grows wild in Brazil.

This acai fruit is the star among other well-known antioxidants, such as blueberries, grapes, red wine, green tea, cranberries, blackberries, and pomegranates.

By comparison, acai has more than 10 times the
antioxidant power of cranberries and twice that of blueberries.

But the acai is only grown in Brazil, which limits the quantity and availability of its nutients, although some companies have started importing freeze-dried acai powder for their fruit juices.

Manufacturers have found that the acai pulp, when processed immediately after picking, will form a powder that (when freeze-dried) retains most of its ORAC benefits.
